Children Running Through

Bacchante and Infant Faun, by Frederick William MacMonnies

I used to be shy.
You made me sing.

I used to refuse things at table.
Now I shout for more wine.

In somber dignity, I used to sit
on my mat and pray.

Now children run through
and make faces at me.

  1. this one speaks to me of generational change, Ruth, from the somber, shy child to the one who is laughed at by children.

  2. Something delightful about the ending, with the running children making faces at us. First we learn to sing, then shout for wine and then to make children laugh. Are these not important and worthy goals?

At the request of a Rumi Reader, I have enabled comments, because I agree that someone, sometime might want to write about the power of Rumi's words. So many times they have met me in ways I just have to share, and so I want you to have that opportunity here. There is no expectation for comments, but please do write something if you feel the urge. ~ Ruth
