A Mouse and a Frog (2)

Illustration for an Aesop's fable found here

But one day the mouse complains, There are times
when I want sohbet, and you're out in the water,
jumping around where you can't hear me.

We meet at this appointed time,
but the text says, Lovers pray constantly.

Once a day, once a week, five times an hour,
is not enough. Fish like we are
need the ocean around us.

Do camel bells say, Let's meet back here Thursday night?
Ridiculous. They jingle
together continuously,
talking while the camel walks.

Do you pay regular visits to yourself?
Don't argue or answer rationally.

Let us die,
   and dying, reply.

*This is the night Rumi died, in 1273.

  1. It's about time I paid more regular visits to myself. And more regular visits here too. Beautiful blog.

  2. Welcome and thank you, Robert. There's no one more important for you to visit than yourself. And you picked a tremendous day to visit here, this being Rumi's "wedding" day and all.

At the request of a Rumi Reader, I have enabled comments, because I agree that someone, sometime might want to write about the power of Rumi's words. So many times they have met me in ways I just have to share, and so I want you to have that opportunity here. There is no expectation for comments, but please do write something if you feel the urge. ~ Ruth
